Music

Every year at Eyes to the Skies, we strive to have a great line up of Musicians. This year is no different. We have once again decided to keep most of the bands local to spotlight the great acts in the area.

Van Kampen Stage (Main Stage)

Friday, June 29th

6:00 pm – Pat Smillie Band
Detroit born but Chicago bred, Pat Smillie nicely blends blues and soul. Pat Smillie is an amazing vocalist, with a soulful expressive voice. He doesn’t just sing; he feels the songs, and he’ll make you feel them, too. It’s almost as if he becomes possessed by the music. That’s how deep it goes. Without a doubt Smillie and his band have been a revered local fixture for more than a decade. Pounding blues rock, funky soul, slick urban R&B, smooth ballads, and even a taste of country.

8:00 pm – Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels
There’s certainly nothing nostalgic about the charged music here- no one, but no one, ever kicked out the rockin’ R&B jams better than Mitch Ryder & The Detroit Wheels. The tragedy is that mismanagement, and show biz machinations sidetracked a great band and- the financial inequity aside- quite possibly prevented Mitch Ryder from tapping his full potential as a singer. But all these problems can’t erase the indelible rush of The Detroit Wheels shifting into over-drive with that imitable, fiery voice flying over the top.

Virtuoso lead guitarist Daryl Stuermer of the super-group Genesis and Phil Collins has been touring the world to sold-out crowds since 1978, creating the signature guitar sound of the Phil Collins mega hits “In the Air Tonight” and “Easy Lover.” As co-writer of the Phil Collins 1989 Grammy Award Winning, Billboard No. 4 single “Something Happened on the Way to Heaven,” Stuermer continues to write music for his eight solo albums of original music and cover his favorite Genesis vocals and instrumentals along the way. His band is an exciting fusion of Stuermer’s unique Genesis renditions, creating an unforgettable evening that reinvents the Genesis experience.

7:00 pm – Fender Benders
We are five versatile musicians, each of whom has been performing in rock bands for 20-40 years (for a total of more than 150 years individual performing experience). We have been together for eight years… with the same band members! Our repertoire includes songs everybody knows: true “classics” from the golden age of rock: the late 60s, the 70s, and the early 80s. Our sound is genuine and true to the genre, with full instrumentation on vintage instruments (including all-tube guitar and keyboard amps), rich lead vocals, and tight harmonies.

1:00 pm – Kashmir Led Zeppelin Tribute Band
Kashmir was formed in late 2001, after guitarist Frank Livingston decided to form a show based on substance and feel rather than just “fitting the suit”. “It is important to look the part, but way too often tribute bands seem to forget that without the sound, the look does nothing”. KASHMIR is a very entertaining show bringing only the best of LED ZEPPELIN to their fans. KASHMIR seeks to re-create the experience of a 70′s Zeppelin show utilizing authentic vintage stage gear, costumes, and special effects, with great attention to detail in a non pretentious way. But most importantly, KASHMIR does not take liberties on improving the music. Led Zeppelin should be played as it was using only the equipment of the era, and should be reproduced dead on with great respect and admiration. “It’s not about us, it’s about Led Zeppelin”. KASHMIR performs Led Zeppelin’s entire catalog including Led’s Zeppelin’s classic movie, The Song Remains The Same. http://kashmirchicago.com

3:00 pm – Hot Rocks
